Website Building Research

For my first entry into this blog i wanted to start on doing research towards building a photography website for myself. For this i wanted to draw inspiration from other websites, starting with other photography websites such as Martin Parr's own website, a website i was shown as an example. What stuck out to me about Parr's website design was that it stuck partially to his style of photography, as the website itself is fairly simplistic with basic page layout, white background and a simplistic style of font. this itself doesn't seem like his style, being quite corporate, but other aspects do, like how the page selector icons are all different identifying photos such as the intro page being a portrait of parr, on top of the bright red paint like logo in the top left, the quirkiness and bright colours paying homage to the quirkiness and bright colours of parrs own photographic work.

Following after Parr's website i decided to look further into the types of websites that have "character", remembering an interactive art exhibit id seen on YouTube a few years ago called "OmegaMart". OmegaMart is a fictional supermarket full of strange products, phenomena and adverts, created by a collective of artists known as "meowwolf", with the actual OmegaMart itself being an art installation  in Las Vegas. One detail I remembered from this fixation was the fake website set up for OmegaMart, full of bright retro colours and graphics, including a fun cartoon mascot. I particularly like this website design as it doesnt take itself too seriously but still manages to do the job it was intended to do and sell tickets for the art experience itself.

Overall when it comes to designing my website i think i would like to create something that is more colourful and on the "fun" side of website design, using bright colours and retro inspired graphics, taking inspiration from these two designs.

Edit: This blog was originally posted on Blogger.com but i decided to make the change over to my own website to keep everything in one place which makes it all easier to edit.
